Universities
The well-known Tamil Nadu Agricultural University is located in the city. In addition, Bharathiar University is also located here to cater to the requirements of education and research in various fields. Avinashilingam Deemed University is functioning for the promotion of women's' education.
Forest Training College
India's prestigious second forest training college is located in Coimbatore. Personnel from all over India and other countries are trained in forestry and allied fields in this college.
Medical college
There are two well-established Medical colleges, one run by the Government and another by a private management. Both are located at Avinashi road,Peelamedu. Besides there are several paramedical colleges located in the city.
Engineering Colleges
Coimbatore has several well established Engineering colleges which include one Government Engineering College and 8 Private Engineering Colleges. Also numerous Polytechnics, industrial institutions run by Government and private organizations are located here.
Arts & Science
There is one Government College with coeducation. There are many colleges for women.

A unique college for the promotion of music is located at R.S.Puram.
Law College
A Government Law College for the promotion of Law Education is located at the foot hills of the Marudhamalai Temple.
