   Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation - Contingency Plan

ABSTRACT FOR CONTINGENT PLAN 2002-2003

Plan “A”

1 Inter connecting Pilloor main to V.O.C. Park reservoir for district V and VI to draw about 8 MLD of Pilloor water for the Siruvani fed area. This work will be completed with in 2 weeks with the arrangements of laying 300mm dia A.C. pipe with additional sump and pump room and pump sets. 12.00 Before 20th August
2 Diversion of Pilloor water to Kavundam palayam, Kannappa nagar and Ramasamy nagar and Jai nagar of Siruvani fed area. Existing arrangements will be enough for diverting 6 MLD of Pilloor water. Already available  
3 Collecting the water from Periar Odai by pumping to treatment plant about 45 kms by providing the pump sets and check dam across Odai and by utilizing the existing CI pipe up to 3.80 km and providing new pipeline to a length of 0.70kms to the treatment Unit from the old settling tank including clearing the jungles and bushes. 10.50 Before 20th August
4 Collecting the water from Periar Odai by pumping to treatment plant about 45 kms by providing the pump sets and check dam across Odai and by utilizing the existing CI pipe up to 3.80 km and providing new pipeline to a length of 0.70kms to the treatment Unit from the old settling tank including clearing the jungles and bushes. 50.00 Before 30th August
5 Further a proposal to implement 47 works with new bore wells and allied distribution network has been submitted to CMA and district Collector for recommending to the Government for sanction. 89.42 Before 31st August

Plan “B

1 Diverting Pilloor water to Tatabad area of district IV-B 3.30 MLD of water will be diverted. For this inter connection of Pilloor main at Sathy road to Tatabad reservoir is to be carried out by laying 350mm dia PSC pipes and with sump, pump house and pumping arrangements. 65.00 Before 15th October
2 Diversion of Pilloor water to Bharathi Park H.L.R. using the existing common conveying main by providing sump and pumping arrangements at suitable area to draw a quantity of 13 to 15 MLD. 50.00  Before 30th September

Plan “C”

2 Providing sufficient nos. of bore wells (20 to 25 Nos.) at Siruvani Adivaram belt at Semmedu belt area along the 1000mm pipeline alignment and pumping water and contingent the sump and pumping to the existing gravity main at Coimbatore. 150.00  Before 30thJanuary

Funds Requirement for the contingent plan

       PLAN–A

(i)         Under plan “A”, item No.1 and 3 will be executed from the Corporation’s funds  itself.  For item No.4 and 5 totally 139.42 lakhs is required.  These two works are absolutely necessary at this juncture to meet the needs of city’s drinking water requirements.  For item No.3 and 4 detailed estimate is being prepared by the TWAD Board and this work may be entrusted to TWAD Board as deposit work.

(ii)        As regards item No.5, proposals have already been sent to the Commissioner, Municipal Administration in this office letter No.3327/02/D’Man dated 8.4.2002.

 Since these two works are to be taken up on war-footing, Rs.139.42 lakhs may be sanctioned to the Coimbatore Corporation to carryout these works. 

      PLAN - B

Interlinking the Bharathi Park HLR and Tatabad reservoir to Pilloor Main  is a must to supply Pilloor water in the Siruvani fed area. These two works will cost of Rs.115 lakhs. The officials of the TWAD Board are preparing detailed estimates for these two works.  In order to carried out these works, Rs.115 lakhs may be sanctioned to Coimbatore Corporation . These works may be entrusted to TWAD Board as deposit works.

      PLAN –C

 Necessity to take these works will arise only after October. Therefore these works may be considered for execution in October. 

Therefore, as requested above a sum of Rs. 254.42 lakhs (under plan “A” Rs.139.42 lakhs + under plan “B” Rs.115 lakhs) may be sanctioned to the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation under drought relief to provide drinking water supply without any hindrance to public.
